As a resonator shop we do our best to offer you the highest quality instruments available! We have brands like National, Dobro, Leewald and of course vintage! The problem with resonator guitars is that most of the time they are expensive or otherwise low quality. Of course you can get a good instrument that’s made in China, but you have to be a bit lucky. Well, you can be! One of the leading “made in China” brands at this moment is Royall. A fairly small company with a strong desire to make good instruments. With a bit of help they are reaching the so called “mid level” range for players with a budget, or for the ones who are in need of a good traveling instrument next to their high end guitars. We as Mainwood Guitars have the access and possibility to “hand select” these Royalls and do the final setup here at the shop. In these way you can be sure that you’ll get a good instrument with an excellent quality control. Of course they are not on the same level as the high ends, but a very, very good option for a small budget!

Its Spanish name translates as “The Troubador,” and this wood-body single-cone National has been popular with musicians ever since its debut in 1932. This reissue was designed in collaboration with renowned blues and swing guitarist Mike Dowling. Like the original, our El Trovador features a large, four-inch-deep body constructed of mahogany — a wood famed for its sonic properties. A wooden soundwell houses the resonator, adding to the unique sound projection. The body is bound in multi-layer celluloid, with a matching purfling border around the classic coverplate. An ebony fretboard is mated to the solid mahogany neck, which is capped by a rosewood headstock overlay. With its rich, deep, warm tone, our El Trovador is one of National’s most popular guitars among troubadors everywhere.

Our NRP Steel Tricone features the classic styling of the vintage Tricones but with a special sound. The tone of the steel body offers a deeper, darker voice — yet with more immediacy and presence. And it still boasts all the amazing sustain and rich choral tone the Tricones are famous for. The steel body and coverplate are plated and then hand rubbed with a vintage vibe. Inside, the NRP Steel Tricone features the same type of aluminum resonating cones and T-bridge as the original models. The mahogany neck features an unbound ebony fingerboard with dot inlays, while the traditional slotted headstock has “NATIONAL” stamped on it. If you’re seeking a Tricone with a bit more blues feel to it, the NRP Steel guitar has it in spades. Here as a custom made baritone in Aged Ivory White!

Condition: NEW!
Color: Black/Green Rust
Origin: U.S.A.

Our NRP B Series replicates the vintage Duolian — and these modern reissues surpass most old ones in quality, playability, and even tone. The thin-gauge steel body is period-correct, featuring flat-cut f-holes, traditional sieve resonator coverplate, and a formed back. Still, no two NRP guitars are exactly alike: The bodies are finished with a multi-stage, hand-textured finish for an individual look and semi-smooth surface profile that emulates the original Duolians. The mahogany neck with truss rod is capped by an unbound ebony fretboard complete with mother-of-pearl position markers. Vintage-style plain tuners, ebony nut, and “National” stamped into the slotted headstock complete the look of this classic. But it’s the trademark sound that makes these guitars so special — almost like a ghostly evocation of the best vintage 1930s Duolian.

Our tenor guitar recreates the sound and style of vintage National tenors and is available in steel, brass, or German Silver. Like many original 1930s National guitar models, our tenor has flat-cut f-holes and a ribbed sieve-hole resonator coverplate. Here as a custom made wood body Triolian!

The first Triolians were painted in a golden Polychrome finish, highlighted by a stenciled scene on the back featuring the sun setting through swaying palm trees along the shoreline of Paradise. Our reissue of the classic Polychrome Triolian not only matches the style of the original, but also the special sound of those first single-cone Nationals. The body is available in either thin-gauge steel or wood. And like the originals, it’s constructed with flat-cut f- holes, a formed back, and traditional non-ribbed coverplate. You can select from either the early 12-fret, large-body or later 14-fret, smaller-body version. The maple neck comes with an ebony fretboard with ivoroid binding and traditional engraved tuners. Both include an adjustable truss rod—something the vintage Nationals lacked. But this reissue doesn’t lack any of the tone of the originals: It still sounds as sweet and rich as a classic 1930s National.

National’s 14-Fret Style “O” became an icon when Mark Knopfler began using a late 1930s model and pictured it prominently on the cover of Dire Straits’ Brothers in Arms album released in 1985. Our reproduction is true to the vintage original. The smaller, 14-fret body allows versatility and ease of access for reaching those higher notes. The brass-bodied instrument is polished to a mirror-like shine, nickel plated, and then etched with the exotic Hawaiian palm-tree scenes. The maple neck is finished in a traditional sunburst. An ivoroid-bound ebony fretboard and vintage-style engraved tuners complete the look of this enduring classic.

Condition: Very good!
Color: Amber Burst
Year: 1992
Origin: U.S.A.
